As of 5 p.m. Beijing time on Tuesday, atotal of 10,566 COVID-19 cases have been reported outside China, with a deathtoll of 166, according to the WHO. Eight countries, including Andorra andPortugal, reported their first confirmed COVID-19 cases.
The number of new coronavirus cases outside China was almost 9 times higher than that inside the country over the last 24 hours, the head of the World Health Organization said on Monday.
Under a strict mechanism of mass prevention and control, China has seen a rapid decrease in new cases of coronavirus. The mechanism is rare, and countries with rapid spread of the virus can refer to China's approach, suggested Zhong. It's a key to ensure an early detection and quarantine of infected cases.
Zhejiang Province reported seven new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection on Monday, all of which are imported cases from people returning from Italy, bringing the total number of infected patients from abroad in the province to eight.
The infected patients were colleagues at a restaurant in the northern Italian city of Bergamo, local authorities said Tuesday.
The 31-year-old female patient surnamed Wang is an overseas Chinese from Qingtian. The patient started to show symptoms, including cough, headache and diarrhea, on Feb 16 and took medicine by herself.
On Feb 26, she flew from the Italian city of Milan to China via Moscow, Russia and arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport in Shanghai last Thursday.
Last Friday morning, she took a chartered car to Qingtian and was sent to a designated isolation site in the county immediately for medical observation, according to local health administration.

多地通報境外輸入病例

Aside from Zhejiang, cases from overseas were recently reported in Ningxia Hui autonomous region, Beijing and Guangdong.
Beijing reported two imported novel coronavirus pneumonia cases from Iran last Sunday. They took part in an activity in Iran with one of the confirmed patients from Ningxia and were diagnosed with novel coronavirus pneumonia on Feb 29.
Guangdong province is requiring all foreigners who have visited countries and regions hit by the coronavirus outbreak to be isolated for medical observation for 14 days in designated hotels or at home after they arrive in the province. The directive took effect on Monday.
The provincial office of foreign affairs reported the province's epidemic status and measures that have been introduced to fight the infection. It also opened a 24-hour hotline in English and Chinese for foreigners to inquire about the epidemic and safety measures in the province.
Xu Wei, a spokesperson for the Shanghai municipal government's news office, said on Tuesday that those who have been to countries and regions affected by the epidemic within the past 14 days will be required to quarantine themselves for two weeks upon entering the city. Both Chinese and foreign residents are treated the same.
People entering or returning to China through Beijing from countries severely hit by the novel coronavirus outbreak, including South Korea, Italy, Iran and Japan, should be isolated at home or placed under quarantine for 14 days, said Chen Bei, deputy secretary-general of the Beijing Municipal Government, on Tuesday in a daily media briefing.
